Regular Dental Visits

It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that your child see the dentist for a check up at least twice a year. Some children may need more frequent dental visits because of increased risk of tooth decay, unusual growth patterns or poor oral hygiene. Dr. Sarah or Dr. Kristen will suggest to you the best appointment schedule necessary for your child.

When dental visits are scheduled on a regular basis, your child has a much better chance of staying cavity free. Teeth cleanings remove debris that can build up on the teeth, thus, irritating the gums and cause decay. Fluoride treatments renew the fluoride content in the enamel, strengthening the teeth and preventing cavities. Hygiene instructions improve your child's brushing and flossing, leading to cleaner teeth and healthier gums.

Tooth decay is not the only reason for a dental visit. Dr. Sarah and Dr. Kristen provide an on going assessment of changes in your child's oral health. For example, your child may need additional fluoride, dietary changes, or sealants for ideal health. Our doctors may identify orthodontic problems and suggest treatment to guide the teeth as they emerge in the mouth.

Dr. Sarah or Dr. Kristen will review your child's medical and dental history. We will talk to your child with understandable words, pictures and ideas. Your child will be motivated to take responsibility for a healthy smile.

Acting in accord with the guidelines from American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Sarah and Dr. Kristen will only recommend X-rays when it is necessary to protect your child's dental health. For example, X-rays may be needed to diagnose tooth decay or other abnormalities. Additionally, x-rays may be required for orthodontic treatment. The staff or our doctors will always discuss the need for x-rays with you before any are taken.
